Data Science for SMEs in Kenya

From 17th – 22nd September 2018 in Nakuru and Eldoret

The new era of digitalization in Africa has provided the continent with unique possibilities for industrialization and untapped incremental development. This digitalization is particularly marked in Kenya due to the extensive adoption of mobile technology.

In a collaborative Project, μ-Data Analytics Institute and Mount Kenya University aim to create awareness about Data Science among Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya and the possibilities they have in scaling up their businesses by adopting a data-driven approach. The project endeavours to equip entrepreneurs with practical skills and tools to help develop data driven business models to build their organizations.

This is done by providing know-how in Data Science and application through a 2½ day training workshop in five different counties in Kenya. The project which is supported by CIM was officially launched in April 2018.

The first Data Science training workshop was carried out from 2nd - 7th July 2018 in Nairobi and Nyeri.

In the second phase of the project, the training workshop took place from 17th – 22nd September 2018 in Nakuru and Eldoret.

The third and last phase of the Data Science training workshop will take place in Mombasa in December 2018. The workshops will be followed by a conference where gained insights during the trainings in all five counties in Kenya will be presented and discussed.
